Rego and Licence Labels for Campervans in New Zealand

Registration and licence label display for campervans in NZ: where to put them, renewal, and digital options. Complements WOF and rego requirements.

What Are Rego and Licence Labels?

When you pay registration (rego), you receive a licence label (or confirmation if going digital) that shows your rego is current. You must display it on the vehicle (or comply with digital display rules) so enforcement can see the vehicle is registered. WOF and rego are both required to drive legally.

Where to Display

The licence label is usually placed on the windscreen (often top-left or as specified by NZTA). Keep it visible and legible. If you have a digital rego or label-free option (check current NZTA policy), you may not need a physical label — ensure you have proof of current rego if stopped. Don’t drive with expired rego; your insurance may be void and you can be fined.

Renewal

Rego can be paid in 3, 6, or 12-month blocks. Set a reminder before the expiry date. You can renew online at NZTA, at an NZTA agent, or at selected outlets. If rego lapses, the vehicle cannot be driven until renewed. Factor rego into your running costs and when selling — current rego is a selling point.
