Ferry Operators
Two main operators: Interislander (KiwiRail) and Bluebridge (Strait Shipping). Both run Wellington ↔ Picton. Book in advance for vehicles; walk-on passengers have more flexibility. Compare prices and sailings; both take campervans and motorhomes.
Booking and Cost
Book online with vehicle length (and height if high). Cost depends on length, season, and operator — roughly $150–$300+ one way for a typical campervan. Promotions and off-peak can reduce price. Cancel or change per operator's policy.
On the Day
Arrive at the terminal in good time (usually 60–90 minutes before sailing). You'll be directed to drive on; park and go upstairs. In rough weather the crossing can be bumpy — take seasickness measures if you're prone. Wellington and Picton terminals have basic facilities.
